BOSTON MARATHON BOMBINGS - FIRST BOMB SITE IN FRONT OF LENSCRAFTERS AND MARATHON SPORTS, NEAR FINISH LINE

In the photo above you can see what looks like an intact black backpack beside the light pole (it is to the far right of the photo, between the cardboard box and orange bag).

In the photo above there is a black backpack (beside the policeman's feet) that is intact at the scene of the first bomb site and another one that was shredded (beside the red paramedic bags) when the bomb it contained was detonated. In the photo below, taken a little later, the intact black backpack is still at the scene.

In the photo above you can see several dark-colored bags on the sidewalk and a large mass of dark-colored items beside the light pole.

In the photo above you can see that the bomb squad performed a "controlled explosion" of a bag that they placed up against the building. In other photos, you can see there wasn't a bag there after the blasts at the first bomb site. The controlled explosion of this bag left the black mark. For some reason, the one bench is broken into pieces in the photo above, yet it was intact in the photos immediately after the blast.
